If you ask anyone at Tradelink why they love working here, the answer is always “it’s the people”. Now you may be rolling your eyes at this point but stick with us! There is really something unique about the people that choose and love Tradelink.
We aren't just any people. We come from all walks of life, and have some amazing stories. But no matter how diverse we are, there are things that connect us.
We are get-the-job-done-while-having-a-laugh people. Sometimes we are rough-around-the-edges people. But at the core we are good people, genuine people, who bend over backward to help.
In short, we are real.
Like, Trish our Fleet Coordinator. She’s worked here for 17 years and has seen a lot of change in that time.
"But the core never changes!” says Trish. “It’s our people, whether new starters or those who have been here for 20 years, they bring the same type of spirit!” Trish is the kind of no-nonsense Tradelinker who is all about making things happen. She manages a fleet of 650+ vehicles and 400 forklifts, and there isn’t anyone in the whole company that doesn’t have a story of when Trish helped out. And she’s focused on the future too.
Relationships that grow, that last, that truly matter. At Tradelink our people understand that working together means partnership, and the value of keeping our promises. We also understand that legacy is about the relationships you maintain, they shape the way you’re remembered. This is why our 150-year story is still being written.
What does that look like? It looks like caring, every day. Caring about every new customer that walks in the door, about those that are almost part of the furniture, and about the community in which we put down roots.
Carly, Branch Manager of Tradelink Gladstone knows all about this. “I’m just so proud that we’re here supporting our community, and the small plumbing and other trade businesses. We really building something long lasting!”
What’s the meaning of relationships for Carly?
At Tradelink, we believe our people are capable of so much. That’s why we love to watch them grow their careers, right here, with us. Whether you want to step up, move across or stay and grow where you are, you can do it here. As a national company, we always have positions going across multiple fields. Put your hand up and make it happen!
You’ll hear so many stories about Tradelink People doing great work and progressing in the business. Read on to see how some members of our team have grown with us.
At Tradelink, we have the guts and heart to be bold. And we hope you will, too. We don’t pretend our work is easy. But as part of the team, you’ll feel every success, and we reckon the wins will keep you coming back for more!
With Tradelink, you’ll rise to the challenge while exercising your problem-solving brain. We think that’s part of what makes working with us so rewarding. Because when you challenge yourself, you grow. And we want to see growth for every one of our employees.
Hear from two of our amazing team team members about why they love the challenge at Tradelink.
We don’t mean to sound cliché, but now really is the time to join Tradelink. But we know that so many companies say this without really meaning it. So why is it true for us?
Well, for starters we live by the motto “there’s no time like the present”. Our people never let an opportunity go to waste, and we’re always eager to make a new start. Does that mean we’re always busy? Absolutely! But it goes to the heart of Tradelink. We don’t put off or delay, we dive-in and kick-on. It’s who we are.
Secondly, we’ve never had a clearer vision and strategy for growth. As a 150-year-old business we’ve seen plenty of change and have a legacy we value. But we always look to the future and find the steps we need to take today to get there. We’re evolving, and joining us today means you can be part of shaping tomorrow.
Like Andy Baz, our Assistant Branch Manager at North Lakes. He is a living example of our “now’s the time” mindset. He never stops moving, thinking up new ideas for his branch, and making today better with an eye on tomorrow.
I’m really excited about our fleet change over to hybrid, being passionate about both the environment and cars. My whole family are in the car industry. Getting our Tradelink fleet to hybrid has been such an exciting project, because it means we’re doing better for the planet, and keeping up to date with the industry at the same time.
I love working in our team, because everyone can bring their own strengths and their own style to what they do. It makes me happy that I’m working on something that matters to the people who are on the frontline of our business.
You’re seeing your regulars almost every day, and it all starts with just having a chat with them. Over time you build something special, even friendships. We have customers that some of our people have known for 20 years or more! And every new customer is a new opportunity to start building towards that.
No day is ever the same at Tradelink, and at the end it’s the relationships that you’ve built with your team mates and with colleagues from other teams that get you over the line. We’re really big on mucking-in and helping each other when we need to.
I jumped at the Accounts role. It's been really interesting to learn another side of the business. And that's what I really enjoy at Tradelink. All my way through, every two years, I've had an opportunity to progress into a different role and learn new things. I've seen what it's like elsewhere. I’m very happy with Tradelink.
I’ve worked in a lot of small businesses where I might be the manager or the boss but you can't go anywhere from there. Whereas at Tradelink, I’ve really had that opportunity to grow and learn new skills and take on new challenges.
You’ll find the opportunity to learn and create a really good career path with a national company. The opportunities are endless because of the different divisions within our business in sales, operations, marketing, HR, digital and more. In my time, I've seen many people progress through the business, and Tradelink’s always very keen to promote internally.
Branch Assistants, Assistant Managers and Branch Managers are often promoted through the ranks and moved to new roles within the company. It makes me proud and confident that the business wants to look after its people.
Oh, you can grow at Tradelink! We've got a young man who started with us when he was 18. And he's now a Second in Charge at 21!
My husband started as a ute driver 24 years ago at Tradelink Joondalup; he was willing to do that to get an opportunity in the stores. He started in the branch as a Branch Assistant, then from there, he moved to Second in Charge to Inventory to Branch Manager, and then to Sales Area Manager and now to Area Manager!
I would say to anyone starting at Tradelink: Learn as much as you can, and ask questions because there is never a silly question - it’s better to ask a question than do something silly! Don't think you're being a hindrance asking questions because you can go up the ladder here with Tradelink. Do your work diligently and professionally and you will go places.
My biggest challenge at Tradelink so far? Becoming the Branch Manager! I felt out of my comfort zone taking on the role. But when something doesn’t work out like I thought it would, it’s about sticking it out and always giving it my best go. I have struggled a little bit at times, but the support is there whenever I need it.
I don't like to be put out of my comfort zone, but I have been asked to a few times at Tradelink and it's been the best thing! Like they asked me to get my truck licence. This is something that really scared me. But I did it and it’s been great!
I was a bit nervous about taking on the Project Support Officer role originally, but I want to take a risk and improve myself wherever possible. And I had the endorsement of my future boss. That's all the reassurance I need. That gave me confidence - why would I tell myself I can’t do it if the guy running the ship thinks I can?
I'm really enjoying the challenge. I’ve no regrets at all taking on this new position and I feel like I’ll do this line of work for the rest of my career.
I came here for a future. The funny thing is that this is the job I should have found years ago. I had an opportunity to join Tradelink a while back but didn’t take the leap. The guy who got that role at the time is now a Branch Manager of his own store! The second time around the opportunity came up, I didn’t hesitate.
Our mission is to become a first-choice leader and to build customers for life. And to support our teams in making this happen, we are investing heavily in technology, learning, innovation, products, just to name a few. It’s all part of our strategy and we are making huge headways. There’s never been more opportunity or energy.
